Friends of the Bee Cave Public Library

Welcome and Introductions

Kathy Albert called the meeting to order at 1:30. Introduction of attendees: Kathy Albert, Elena Reid, Barbara Hathaway, Lorna Harger, Mary H. Ruiz, Sandra Johnson, Belinda Garvey, Desiree Johnson, Dyan Emerson, and Debbie Opdahl

Announcements

Typically, the Bee Cave Friends of the Library meeting is held the 3^rd Thursday of each month. Because of spring break, the March meeting will be held on March 22, 2007 at 1:30.

Minutes

The minutes from the January 25, 2007 meeting were approved.

Treasurer Report

Francis Landreaux, the FOL treasurer, was not present at the meeting, but he had reported to Kathy that he is looking for a local bank to establish an account for the Bee Cave FOL. Money will eventually come into the FOL through fund raising and member dues.

Library Director Report

Barbara discussed the Bee Cave Library February calendar of events. February is Love Your Library month. In conjunction with the Love Your Library month, the MOMS non-profit group will show how much they love the library on February 28, with a special story time and a presentation of a $200 donation to the library.

Barbara obtained a listing for the library under the Community Organizations section of the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce website.

Barbara gave an update on the new library and passed out copies of the floor plan. She confirmed the size of the new facility as 4200 square feet. The construction completion date for the new facility is tentatively scheduled for the end of October 2007. The library relocation is tentatively scheduled to occur during the 2007 winter holidays.

Old Business

Kathy discussed the FOL Membership flyer. The group brainstormed opportunities for distributing the flyer and recruiting members. The FOL discussed how to market the library’s offerings and bring in people that might not typically use the library (for example: wireless internet access, water conservation programs, genealogy programs, programs for the assisted living facilities located in the Lake Travis area, etc.).

Kathy and Barbara are attending Home Owner Association meetings to introduce the library and discuss the wonderful programs available at the library.

The group discussed the remaining FOL Chair openings. Dyan Emerson has agreed to serve as the Historian/Reporter. Sandra Johnson has agreed to serve as Grantwriting Chair. Lorna Harger will serve as the Membership Chair. Desiree Johnson will serve as the Publicity/Communications Chair. Opportunities are available to assist in each area and serve on committees.

Dyan also agreed to take responsibility for coordinating a Book Sale. Many, many books have been donated to the Bee Cave Library. These books need to be sorted, boxed, and tagged in preparation for a sale. Dyan will get back to the group with recommended dates for a sale and requests for assistance from other FOL members.

New Business

Grant needs and opportunities were discussed. Grant money may be available for technology, books, shelving, and furniture. A recommendation was made to create a spreadsheet to track available grants.
