Friends of the Bee Cave Public Library
Thursday, July 19, 2007
Welcome and Introductions
Kathy Albert called the meeting to order at 1:35. Introduction of attendees: Kathy Albert,
Elena Reid, Barbara Hathaway, Lorna Harger, Nicola Davies, Beth V. Pay, Laura Mitchell,
Rebecca Murski, Jane Mockford, Frances Landreaux, and Debbie Opdahl
Announcements
Book bags are still for sale and more will be ordered and available at
Book Sale.
National Night Out will be celebrated in Bee Cave on August 7, 2007.
Minutes
There were no minutes published from the June 2007 meeting.
Treasurer Report
Francis Landreaux, the FOL treasurer, was not present at the beginning
of the meeting.
Membership Drive Report
Discussed Preliminary text for brochure
Discussed placing brochures in school folders around October
Discussed booths at beginning of school year at Bee Cave and Lake Point
Elementary
Grant Writing Report
Jane discussed grant writing suggestions. We would like to purchase a display case for
the foyer of the new library. Jane
explained that HEB has been very generous and supportive of the Bee Cave
library and suggested we submit a grant proposal to HEB requesting funding for
the display case.
The group discussed the library’s long term relationship
with HEB and other potential grant opportunities. Laura will share information and
documentation from a grant writing course she completed.
Library Director Report
Barbara discussed the Bee Cave Library calendar of events. Readership is up 50% from last summer. 260 children signed up fo rthe summer reading
program. The city council response to
the library budget for next fiscal year has been positive. Barbara hopes all budget requests for next
fiscal year will be approved.
Book Fair
Lincoln Properties is partnering with us on the Book Fair. The Book Fair will be held in the School
House. The group discussed ways for
Lincoln Properties retailers to participate (providing drinks and food, punch
cards, items for giveaways, etc.). The
following groups were identified:
Signage - Barbara Hathaway
Checkout - Frances Landreaux, This includes traffic flow, acceptance of
checks, determining costs for books, providing change for the cashiers, etc.
Setup - Laura Mitchell will contact people to participate in a Community
Mixer/Setup event.
Food - Lorna Harger
Entertainment - Percussionist, perhaps others. Barbara has coordinated
with percussionist. Debbie will ask 620
Dance Studio if they would be interested in participating.
Clean up - Suggested asking HS and MS volunteers
