Welcome and Introductions

Kathy Albert called the meeting to order at 1:30.  Introduction of attendees: Kathy Albert, Lorna Harger, Laura Mitchell, Jane Mockford, Dyan Emerson, Renee Mitchell, Frances Landreaux, Barbara Hathaway, and Debbie Opdahl

Minutes

Minutes from the July 19, 2007 meeting are posted on the website.

Treasurer Report

Francis Landreaux, the FOL treasurer, reported that $1024.27 was raised at the book sale.  There is approximately $1000 still in our account after recent expenditures, including book bags, incorporation fees, and IRS payment.

Membership Drive Report

Lorna has not received any requests to join.  Group discussion on options for increasing membership.  Suggestions included asking patrons to join when they request a library card and a high profile event to spur enrollment when the new library opens.

Grant Writing Report

Jane met with Elaine Perkins to examine the historical collection she has compiled for the area going back to the 1880's.  The collection includes approximately 200-300 pictures.  An inquiry was made to UT graduate school to determine if a Capstone student would be interested in overseeing the Bee Cave historical collection as an archival project. The now defunct Western Travis Historical Society has $10,000 they want to donate to the Bee Cave Library to digitize and catalog this collection.

Jane provided handouts of display cabinets and is still pursuing obtaining a grant from HEB to purchase one.

Old Business

Dyan provided an update on the book sale.  Kudos to everyone.  The book sale was a very successful money raising event, but probably wasnt worth the storage issues and the amount of effort required to host the event.  Thank you notes will be sent to Lincoln Properties, the Lake Travis footbal players, stores that donated giveaways, the Girl Scouts, and others.

New Business

Discussion of the Barnes and Noble Bee Cave Library fund raiser scheduled for October 27-28 from 10 am to 9 pm.  If B&N customers present a voucher when they make a purchase, a percentage of the sale will be donated to the Library.  Kathy wants the brochure and voucher in a PDF format to post on our website.  As part of this event, the FOL will host a table on October 28.  Volunteers are needed to staff this table and the suggestion was made for teens needing community service hours to assist.

Most of the shops in the Galleria will be opening the last week of October.  A suggestion was made for the FOL to host a gala once the exact date of the library opening has been determined.  Guests will be asked to join the FOL.

The library received a Target grant for $3500.  This money is earmarked for CDs and books for children with learning disabilities.

There was a discussion of distributing dated periodicals to nursing homes, schools, womens shelters, etc. with a label that says Donated by Bee Cave Library.  The FOL will try to find a group to own this project.

The library holiday party will be held the evening of December 13, 2007, for FOL members and library staff and their families.  We need a host for the party and attendees will bring a covered dish.

Library Director Report

Barbara reported that the 2008 budget should be adopted next Tuesday.

Before the opening of the new library, a Scrapbook Party will be held.  This event is scheduled for October 15, 2007.  Everyone will bring any scrapbooking supplies they may have.

Adjourn

The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 pm.
