Friends of the Bee Cave Public Library

1:30 pm

 

President Kathy Albert called meetinf to order at 1:30 pm.  Welcoming remarks and announcements followed.  Present were Kathy Albert, Barbara Hathaway, Elena Reid, Francis Landreaux, Bev Plath, Lorna Harger.

 

Minutes from the March meeting were approved.

 

Committee Reports

Treasurer:  Awaiting completion of paperwork.  Now that the non-profit filings with the State and the Comptroller are completed, Treasurer Francis Landreaux will proceed to open a bank account.  Chase Bank located in the Shops at the Galleria will be approached first.  The account will require two signatures, that of Treasurer and President.

 

Membership: Lorna showed examples of cards from other Friends groups, with different categories of membership for different prices.  Prototype will be created and circulated for approval.  Addition of a business sponsor category was approved.

 

Library Director:  Barbara Hathaway reported on success of Grace House outreach.  Angela Palmer has been doing a great job, with assistance of MOMS Club led by Vice-president Elena Reid.  Angela Palmer has been promoted to full-time, benefited position.  Angela Palmer reported on library’s booth at Bee Cave Elementary Carnival:  handed out information about Summer Reading Program;  people with no knowledge of library’s existence still a problem.  Upcoming booth at Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce 2nd Annual Business Showcase on Sat., May 5th from 10 am to 4 pm.  Friends will provide someone to be there at least part of the day, and will create brochure or other membership information.  Fishbowl to solicit business cards will be available. 

Further discussion was had on ideas for raising profile of library, including storytimes at Starbucks.

 

New Business

Book Sale will take place on Sat., June 2nd, the day after the Library’s Summer Reading Program officially begins.  Kathy presented design for book bag, which will be sold for $10 plus as many books as it can hold.  The initial order is for 100 bags.  A silent auction is planned, local performing groups will be invited to perform, and other ideas were discussed to try to draw the community to the sale.  Francis will pass out flyers at Rotary, and the Chamber of Commerce should be approached to help as well.  Kathy asked each member to print out and distribute flyers to local stores, etc. 

 

Web site will be updated.  Notify Kathy of any suggestions or changes.

 

Yahoo Group has been set up, and will be used for discussion of upcoming events, etc.
